Woman, Bicycle and Freedom

TYPE

BICYCLE FACE is an audiovisual essay that reflects on the relationship between women and bicycles from a contemporary perspective. Film excerpts, archival footage, texts, fictional scenes and bicycle sounds come together in this audiovisual collage, conceived as a celebration of women’s freedom and their capacity for struggle and resistance.

The starting point is a historical fact that takes us back to the late 19th century, when women began riding bicycles. It was then that an invented illness was diagnosed with the aim of discouraging women from cycling.

The short film Bicycle Face has had a notable run at both national and international film festivals. Among others, it has been selected for ZINEBI, Alcances, Avilés Acción, FCM-PNR, Humans Fest, Premios Pávez, In the Palace International Short Film Festival, the Guadalajara International Film Festival (Mexico) and Cinema a Pedal.

Throughout this festival journey, the film has also received the Audience Award at ZINEBI and the Main Prize at Cinema a Pedal, confirming its strong reception among both audiences and festival juries.
